A powerful winter storm system swept through the region Monday, bringing a dramatic change in weather conditions. As the system moved out on its back side, severe thunderstorms quickly gave way to a mix of sleet and rain north of Columbus.
Winter has ended — according to meteorologists. While we may yet have some cold days ahead of us, we’ve survived until March. That means we’ve seen the end of meteorological winter, which begins Dec. 1 and continues through the end of February. (The calendar’s first day of spring is March 20.)
