February 3, known as Four Chaplains Day, honors the memory of the four U.S. Army chaplains who made the ultimate sacrifice during the sinking of the USAT Dorchester in 1943. These men were amongst 674 killed in the worst single death toll for a U.S. convoy during WWII. For their courage and selflessness, the Four Chaplains were each posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart.
