Groundbreaking calorimeter for the #HiLumiLHC The @cmsexperiment has recently completed the first prototype slice of its innovative High-Granularity Calorimeter (HGCAL), which will be the largest silicon-based detector ever built. Scientists from all over the world are contributing to the first complete prototype of a wedge-shaped slice of the new CMS endcap calorimeter. Earlier this month, the Mu2e collaboration moved the experiment's calorimeter into the Mu2e Hall! 🙌 Physicists will use Mu2e to search for the never-observed direct conversion of a muon into an electron, a process predicted by theories beyond the Standard Model. The calorimeter is a subdetector of the Mu2e experiment that will help scientists to confirm that a candidate signal is indeed an electron if a muon-to-electron conversion happens. #physics #Fermilab #muons | Fermi National Accelerator
