CAL FIRE and California State Parks have started work on improving a second strategic Fuel Break within the Auburn State Park. Sore Finger Point, located between Yankee Jims and Ponderosa on the Weimar side of the North American River is well under way. The fuel break will assist CAL FIRE in the mitigation of a fire within the canyon. Both Mechanical and Hand Crew work will reduce fuel loading, increase infrastructure protection and provide much needed access to strategic ridges within the State
