🚓 Traffic Breaks - What to do? 🚓 Why do CHP patrol vehicles weave back and forth within the lanes on the freeway? CHP Officers perform this action to slow traffic down. Usually because there is a hazard in the road, or a vehicle crash on the roadway ahead. The California Vehicle Code states all vehicles should stay behind the traffic break 300 feet and do not pass the CHP vehicle.
